Last August, a team of 10 Give Back Crew members joined a larger group of volunteers at the Second Harvest Heartland’s Golden Valley location. It was a special opportunity. Second Harvest Heartland is working to make food available to those who need it most, right here in corner of the world. Second Harvest not only accepts and distributes food donations but also uses its network to distribute surplus food from sources like grocers, hotels, farms, and restaurants to its agency partners. The agency partners ultimately provide the food that helps hungry neighbors fend off food insecurity. In other words, Second Harvest Heartland is helping to solve the problem of distributing the abundance of surplus food in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin to those in need.
On Thursday, May 17th we headed once again to Second Harvest Heartland, but this time to their new location in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Second Harvest Heartland moved into the new space to meet new space demands, and the Give Back Crew was among the first volunteer crews to work at the new location in the days after its opening.
