Welcome to our blog recap of Hammer & NER’s Reach for Ralph fundraiser. Here, we had the incredible opportunity to join hands with like-minded individuals and support a cause close to our hearts here at the GBC. Hammer Residences is an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities and providing them with the resources they need to lead fulfilling lives. Their annual Reach for Ralph event is a powerful testament to this community’s unwavering spirit of compassion and generosity.
As attendees, we were immersed in a world of hope, inspiration, and support. The air was charged with excitement as people gathered together, united by a shared commitment to making a difference. In this blog, we aim to take you on a journey, reliving the remarkable moments and heartfelt experiences that unfolded throughout the Reach for Ralph fundraising event.
About the Reach For Ralph Fundraiser
On June 22nd, our Team met at Quincy Hall in downtown Minneapolis with a fantastic group of peers to offer our support. The event started with passionate opening remarks from Sheletta Brundidge, who reminded us of the transformative effect our contributions would have on the lives of those in need. From there, a vibrant tapestry of activities unfolded, each designed to raise funds while fostering a sense of unity and community.
Live Auction
The fundraising events at the Reach for Ralph conference were a testament to the creativity and generosity of the organizers. Participants were given the opportunity to offer bids in the live auction. Some prizes included memorable souvenirs, a 1-on-1 fishing trip experience with a skilled fisherman, and a baking class with a professional chef! Offering these fun and unique experiences engaged the group and helped ease the crown into a generous mood. The auction created excitement and an atmosphere of friendly competition, building towards an amazing cause.
Alvina Hammer Tribute
An interpretive heartfelt performance of the Late Alvina Hammer, the founder of Hammer & NER, touched the audience deeply, sharing their journey and inspiring a renewed commitment to the mission. The act also served as an educational piece that was a refreshing reminder of how far the organization has come since its origin in 1923 and how its work has improved many people’s lives.
Stories of Encouragement
We want to share this heart-warming testimony from Hammer & NER’s organization. Meet Kristen!
Kristen moved to her Hammer & NER home in Plymouth just last year. At 34, she is active with a bright future. She loves the Hammer bowling league, theater and enjoys going to dances.
She continues to have the support of family and old neighborhood friends who visit often. She likes to show off her new home, her Paris-themed bedroom, and introduce her housemates.

With staff support, Kristen has quickly adapted to living in her new home – she even does her laundry now! Kristen even expressed, “I am just so proud of myself.”
Stories like this made these nights special and the Hammer & NER event one of the best days of our year. Donating or raising funds always feels good, knowing you are helping others. However, hearing first-hand testimony of genuine growth and prosperity is truly inspiring and makes everything that goes into nights like these so much more worth it.
We feel extremely lucky to have the privilege and ability to give back to these amazing communities that actively change lives daily. The opportunity to improve someone’s life is truly fulfilling, and witnessing its positive impact brings immeasurable joy and a sense of purpose. Knowing that these contributions, no matter how small, can make a difference is a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion and generosity. So let us continue to support these organizations, for in doing so, we not only uplift the lives of others but also enrich our lives in the most meaningful way possible.
At the GBC, we are committed to giving back, one community at a time.
